This trophy was introduced in 2026 to honour our outgoing vice-chairman, Gareth Hogan, and his huge positive impact on the club.

From his very first session at the tail-end of Season 2021/22, Gareth brought a sense of fun and competition to the A Section that quickly made him one of our most popular players. He took on the unpaid role of club coach almost immediately and, in Season 2022/23, captained both the Surrey Men’s Six and Sutton & District Men’s Four squads. He was MVP for both teams that season, as well as for the S&D Hybrid 1 team with his partner, Karen Klimaytys. Gareth was our Surrey Men’s MVP for a second year in a row in Season 2023/24, by which time he was also club captain and tournament secretary.

As an indispensable figure, the position of vice-chairman was created for Gareth in 2025. Gareth’s four years at St. Margaret’s witnessed a vast expansion of the club in which he played no small part, representing St. Margaret’s at league level, in tournaments and at socials – his greatest legacy may be realising Aidan’s long-held dream of an annual “12 Pubs of Christmas” social.  It was an absolute honour to have Gareth with us for all his time in London, and we will miss him and the club’s first lady, Sorcha, more than can be put into words.

The Gareth Hogan Cup is awarded annually at the End of Season Do to the “Player of the Season.”

2025/26:

This trophy was introduced in 2025 in memory of our former treasurer, Sue Smith (1943-2025), a club member for more than 40 years.

Sue joined St. Margaret’s B.C. as a twenty-year-old in 1963, and was still representing the club competitively in her early sixties. She continued as treasurer until 2009, even after she had left the club to play at a more social level. Up until a few years before her death, Sue still attended the All England Championships, the ladies’ weekend away, the club’s Family Day, and all the other annual club events. She was also a regular at The Hand in Hand.  Sue is a greatly missed member of St. Margaret’s Badminton Club’s old guard.

The Sue Smith Cup is awarded annually in her honour at the End of Season Do to a club member who has made an “outstanding contribution to club life.”
